Emerson knows the deal. Guys are fun to have around, but you don't fall in love.Love was losing control. And I never lost control. I just made it look like I did - hooking up with different guys every week - but I was always fully cognizant of my actions. In charge every moment along the way.
Emerson finds herself hanging out with Annie since both of her best friends were pre-occupied with thir boyfriends. Annie While hanging with her single friend seemed like a good idea at the time, when they showed up to a biker bar and said friend left her stranded after she had drank a few too many drinks, she finds herself relying on the kind offer of a hotter than sin biker she meets in the bar. Shaw, while taking a verbal lashing from Emerson takes care of her and gets her home safely, but not before she wakes up partially naked in his bed. (Not telling you any more about HOW she got there!)
Content to never see this man again, she joins her friends for a party. While chatting with Pepper and Logan (Reece's hottie of a younger brother) she spots him. Such a small world this is. It turns out Shaw a cousin of Beth, whose party they are at. Shaw, a former Marine, is loyal to the core. He rescues Emerson, even when she doesn't think she needs it. Emerson isn't in the game for a fairy tale ending, she doesn't think she needs or deserves it. Shaw, on the other hand, knows that is what she deserves which is why he is in constant need to rescuing her.
Emerson may not want the same things that Shaw wants, but he makes it happen. She thinks she sucedded in paying her way at dinner, only to find that he slipped the money back into her pocket without her noticing.
The artist with Emerson couldn't hide the feelings she developed for Shaw. It showed in her painting. She didn't need anyone to see this piece, and yet her teacher insisted on it - and her grade depended on it. When she spotted him across the room seeing her picture, she knew she was gone. When her secret was revealed, he couldn't understand WHY she allowed people to think what they thought of her. My heart melted when she finally let him in.
"Don't leave me."
"Oh, Emerson, I couldn't if I wanted to."
Intense Shaw was laying out his feelings for Emerson to see, and she just couldn't. With never feeling loved or accpeted, she just couldn't give herself to Shaw. It broke all her rules. After a Teen Wolf marathon with a newly single Georgia and Pepper - she texts Shaw with what is my favorite line in the entire book. (And there are some great ones - I tell you the banter between these two is epic!)
You don't have to chase me anymore.
Emerson and Shaw's story had more pain in the back story. I felt for both of them, and I melted when they protected each other. I loved that he didn't give up, even when he tried to give up. His heart was in it 110%.
Loving someone is scary. That was part of it. Always. Knowing, that at any moment for any reason it could be lost. But I wanted that. I wanted love. Even if I couldn't control it. I wanted it. I wanted him.

Tease The Ivy Chronicles Sophie Jordan 9780062279897 Books Reviews
The second book in the Ivy Chronicles was as good as the first in my opinion. I stayed up late to read and find out what would happen. A great thing about this series is you still see the people you loved from the first. I am not giving away spoilers but trust me you will love this story of how Emerson and Shaw fight, banter, and even give up one each other. You never know what will happen when they are in the same room, it is explosive!
Emerson has a reputation that she has worked hard to perfect. She parties on the weekends, never leaving the bar without a hookup. She never has to buy her own drinks and can spot the “right” guy a mile away. She stays away from anyone she can’t control and that might make her feel something the next morning. She breaks the rules unless they are her own. Only problem with her plan Shaw.
Shaw sees Emerson and knows she is trouble even before she starts a bar fight that he has to save her from. After being ditched at a rowdy biker bar, Emerson is forced to accept the Hot bad boy bikers help to get home. She is determined to keep Shaw away from her even when he suddenly shows up everywhere she is. Her friends can see there is something between Emerson and Shaw, but she refuses to let him in. Then the past and secrets she has kept hidden come back to haunt her. Life might end for Emerson before she even gets a real chance to live it… To find out what secrets she is hiding and if Emerson can let them go and trust her heart you will need to buy the second book in this great series.
I have mixed feelings.
I loved Sophie Jordan's style in Foreplay. It was sweet, it was cute, it was fun. It was what I wanted.
I still love her style in Tease. But I miss the fun. In Foreplay, Emerson's attitude as well as Pepper's innocence were cute and funny. In Tease, Emerson's story, what lies behind her attitude made it... Well... Not as fun.
I had already guessed Emerson was kind of broken/messed up. But it seems a bit far-stretched. You know, sometimes in a book you feel like there's a little bit too much to make sense. That's one of those times. Between what she likes to do and the rules she set for herself and obeyed... It seems too incredible.
What about Shaw, the grand male figure ? Well, that's another far-stretched part.
He's been through war, and mourns for his cousin. However, he doesn't seem that traumatized or in mourning. And he barely seems to care that his family doesn't want him.
What about their relationship ? She rejects him. She ignores him. She acts hot and cold. She does everything to avoid him. And still, he pursues her. Because he "sees" right through her. He "knows" her.
I am disappointed, but I still liked this book. I liked the scenes where Emerson painted. I liked their "couple" dynamic when Shaw and Em where together. Especially their attitude. Sometimes they were so funny. Others they were cute. Others, they were cliché.
I even Pre-ordered Wild, the third and final book in The Ivy Chronicle.
Conclusion
If you are a Foreplay fan, you should read it. You may be a bit disappointed, but some scenes are worth it. If you had mixed feelings about Foreplay or if you want it as a stand alone, maybe you shouldn't read it. Wait for Wild.
P.S The excerpt from Wild... It was a long time coming what happened to Georgia in Tease. With this kink club scene (oh, and another hottie named Logan. Seriously, why is Logan a name for hotties ?) my curiosity is piqued.
Emerson knows the deal. Guys are fun to have around, but you don't fall in love.
