Torch Red Color Me Torn TrueColors Series #3 Melody Carlson Books

This deserves a bit more of an honest review. It's about a teenage girl wrestling with her sexuality, peer pressure and navigating public school drama. It ought to come with a warning, as it was full of fairly explicit sexual insinuations & explanations. The good news is the author does this with care, and Zoe makes some wise decisions in her journey. It deals with a lot of heavy issues: pregnancy, abortion, STDs, reputations, popularity, date rape and more.

In all honesty, I'd love to be shocked and tell readers not to read this book - it's too graphic. Unfortunately, it's a very real portrait of what goes on in many public schools, and for many teen girls, it's going to be helpful and refreshing to read a book that takes an honest look at that and responds with grace. Since real life isn't pretty, it's helpful that Carson is writing books that can take that ugly reality and find some beauty in it.

The book is well-written, with engaging characters and real life-issues. Since it is such a heavy topic, as a parent, I'd wish for a little more (like delving into the male/female stereotypes around sex - which it mentions, but doesn't go into, or love and sex) but as a small volume it does admirably with the topic of teen sexuality in general. If your teen is reading it, though, please read it with her and talk about it afterwards. These are not issues I'd want any teen to navigate on her own, and this book may be helpful in opening doors for awkward - but needed - conversations.

Torch Red Color Me Torn TrueColors Series #3 Melody Carlson Books Reviews

Zoë, a junior in high school, feels like she is the absolute, honest-to-goodness, last virgin on earth. With the pressure building from both her girlfriends and her new, more experienced boyfriend, Zoë considers making a choice that will change her status as a virgin. When good girl Casey Renwick befriends Zoë, she might just find out that there is more to sex than just what she's heard in the locker room.

In the third novel of Melody Carlson's True Colors Series, that one topic that plagues mind of so many teens - the dreaded S-E-X word - is tackled. Melody Carlson handles this often troubling subject with sensitivity and finesse. One major concern I had when I first started reading this book was about how graphic the details would get. I definitely did not want end up reading about too many personal details! However, Carlson tells Zoë's story masterfully, never giving her readers more information than necessary, but still allowing real life details to make Torch Red authentic.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. That being said, Torch Redis a Christian book, written by a Christian author, and is published by a Christian company. Readers from different backgrounds may or may not agree with the book's conclusions regarding sex. Melody writes about many diverse viewpoints on sex, but Torch Red encourages girls to maintain their virginity until they are married. This book will certainly be reassuring to young girls who have dedicated to save themselves until marriage. To those girls, Melody Carlson shares the message that you are definitely not alone!

Not only is this book poorly written, it is completely inappropriate. Don't be fooled by this supposedly Christian teen fiction book. It is full of sexual innuendo, joking and descriptions. The girl may come to Christ in the end, but in the meantime you have to wade through a lot of junk. Maybe appropriate for a novel aimed at adults, but not for one aimed at teens. I am appalled that I have allowed my daughter to read any of Melody Carlson's books in the past. I wrongly assumed they would be morally acceptable.
Another one full of trashy stuff mislabeled as "Christian" to motivate youth toward worldliness.
I liked it, always really liked these series. The book was used but in really good shape. It looked brand new.
This book was filled with an interesting set of characters with an unpredictable plot! For all you teenage readers, you'll love it!
Torch Red Color Me Torn with Bonus Content - It's a good book for teenagers... Easy reading but not superficial. I definitely recommend it.
Very good book. Carlson does a great job of writing for young adult gals. I bought the whole series and can't keep it on the shelf.
