When I lived in NYC and dealt with my share of roaches, mice, noise, lack of A/C, no elevator, erratic heating, gasoline fumes from downstairs, getting my car towed, sleeping in the car during street cleaning to hold my spot, paying a lot for everything - I have to say that I agreed with the title. It gets some things right, but misses the rest. Their focus on the sex and the city tour feels like it is written from the point of view of tourists visiting NYC, rather than ones who know it well. This book doesn't list the many common "horrors" (rent discounts) of apartment living. Where are the colourful stories of the homeless? The creative directions that people have given to tourists? A hipster or homeless identification guide? I'm not sure who the target audience is.

Being out of NYC and in visiting some other places, I have to say even with the pitfalls of NYC you can't fault its multiculturalism.

this book is small. its tiny. its half the size i thought it would be. but its funny and its worth buying
This is a fun - and even interesting - book for a New York City resident; much less so for someone less familiar with the city. Not as comical as I expected, but still mildly entertaining.
It's true! not everyone loves NY - this book made me smile and laugh about the things some people love about NY, because other people just do not see it.
It's certainly there. I've added it to our book collection, so you can't say we don't have it. And I read it. I thought 'oh, here's a book to read' and it was. It filled up some time that was going to go to waste, so I'm grateful for that.
My son, who recently moved to New York, found this in his Christmas stocking. We both thought it was amusing.
Got this as a gift for a friend, she LOVED IT. Good for a laugh )
The Real New Yorker is literal and not prone to hyperbole among friends and family. They save grandiosity to foist on the outsider. This book tells the truth, humorously, about New York icons, from the deep honesty of the long term New Yorker. Great great book.
